MRS Score Explained

The Menopause Rating Scale (MRS) is a standardised 11-question tool that measures how much menopause symptoms affect you. It covers three areas: somatic (hot flushes, heart discomfort, sleep), psychological (mood, irritability, anxiety) and urogenital (bladder, dryness, sexual problems).

How scoring works

Each symptom is rated 0 (none) to 4 (very severe). The total gives a severity band — mild, moderate or severe. The score helps you and your clinician see which area is most affected and track change over time.

How to use it

  1. Complete it honestly — the value is in the pattern, not a single number.
  2. Repeat it every few months to see what's improving or worsening.
  3. Bring the results to your appointment as a structured summary.

What it is not

The MRS does not diagnose menopause and does not tell you which treatment to choose. It is a communication and tracking aid, not a medical decision tool.
